England 1914 painted on vintage Stefan Corda figures. The bases are navy blue Santiago Spitfire's. The shirts looked a little bare so I decided to paint a badge on them and did an approximation of the one England were wearing at the time.
Walker at Association Football Before The 'D' told me that up until 1909 goalkeepers wore the same shirt as the outfield players. Records show that the first England keeper jerseys were green, the standard and more familiar, yellow jersey was introduced after 1921. Obviously these days kits are far less likely to follow tradition, especially when there is cash to be made.
I recommend you check out Walker's blog - it's brilliant.
