I never saw a statuette when I was collecting Subbuteo first time around. I do recall seeing the rosettes and thinking they were ridiculous. For me it was all about the playing, even throw-in figures were shunned as they just aren't that good at the job.
So applying the same rule I doubt I would have indulged in statuettes had I seen them - they are rather lovely though.
